Why Choose Combs?

Welcome to the J.O. Combs School District. Here are just a few great reasons to choose our schools:

  • A growing K-12 school district with a variety of educational opportunities and extracurricular programs
  • Neighborhood schools with strong community connections
  • Leaders in K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiatives supported by the Helios Educational Foundation, the Arizona Science Center, and the Pinal County Educational Services Agency
  • Partners with East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT), Banner Ironwood Medical Center, and Central Arizona College
  • New approaches to meeting individuals needs with integrated technology in every classroom

Free Kindergarten

Kindergarten Options and Age Requirements

A child must be five years old before September 1st of the current school year to enroll in Kindergarten. To enter first grade, a child must be six years old before September 1st of the current school year.

Early Kindergarten Testing

By law, students must turn 5 by December 31 of the school year to qualify for early kindergarten testing. Please note that the list below describes general concepts that the early kinder test will be assessing:

  • Social Development:  How well does student separate from parents, follow directions, and interact with adults and peers.
  • Motor Skills:  Physical activity, holding a pencil, and using scissors.
  • Basic Academic Skills:  Knowing shapes, colors, letters, and numbers.

The early kinder test will be administered in April, May, June, and July. The testing fee is $30. If you are interested in early kindergarten testing, please submit the online interest form

If your child has not yet demonstrated these skills, we would recommend that you consider our Kinder Prep preschool. Please refer to the Community Education section of our website for additional information regarding Kinder Prep. Getting our littlest Combs students off to a great start is one of our most treasured responsibilities.

Kindergarten Registration

If your child turns five before September 1, 2017, it's time to register for kindergarten! Registration takes place at all of our elementary school sites. The offices are open on all school days from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please see the above information for necessary documents.

Transfer/Withdrawal

If you plan to move, please sign a withdrawal form for your child in the school office.

Immunization

To help protect your child, state law requires an original copy of your child's immunization from the Doctor. Inappropriate spacing between shots may require additional doses to be administered. The required immunizations include:

DPT   5 doses needed if 4th dose was given prior to 4th birthday
OPV 4 doses needed if 3rd dose was given prior to 4th birthday
MMR 2 doses needed, 1st dose on or after 1st birthday
Varicella 1 dose required (chicken pox vaccine)
Hepatitis B 3-shot series

Please refer to the Arizona state requirements for complete information.

Student exemptions may be filed when a state exemption form is filled out for one of the following reasons:

  • The child's doctor certifies that the child is unable to be given one or more vaccines due to a current health condition which affects the child either temporarily or permanently.
  • A parent certifies that immunizations are contrary to their personal beliefs.

The law allows exemptions; however, the County Health Department may request we exclude your child from school should there be an outbreak of any of these diseases.
