Curriculum and Instruction

Success in today's ever changing world requires well prepared students. We are committed to providing the tools and education necessary to help our students succeed beyond these walls. Recognizing that parent/guardian involvement in a child's education is the most valuable tool available to us, we encourage you to learn all about your child's education. We invite you to review our curriculum standards and requirements provided here in comprehensive detail.

What Is Common Core

The Arizona Common Core Standards, adopted in 2010, provide a clear and consistent framework of academic knowledge and skills designed to prepare our children for success in college and the workforce. A collaboration of teachers, school administrators, and experts from across the nation developed this new generation of English lanaguage arts and mathematics standards. Based on rigorous international benchmarks, research, and evidence-based standards, these core standards will prepare the rising generation to meet the challenges and compete in today's academic and professional world.

We invite you to learn more about Arizona's Common Core Standards by reviewing the information provided on the left side of this page.

Curriculum

We understand the power of information and encourage you to review our curriculum standards. You and your child will know exactly what to expect in the classroom at any grade level.

English Language Learners

We accommodate the distinct needs of our English Language Learners (ELL) through the state mandated ELL program. We employ highly qualified teachers trained to provide the specialized instruction necessary to meet the goals and requirements set forth by the Arizona Department of Education. Our goal is to help the students become English Language Proficient (ELP) as quickly as possible through the administration of this specially tailored instruction program.

To read in greater detail about this program, please visit the Arizona Department of Education website.

Gifted

At J.O. Combs Unified School District #44 we strive to meet the unique and special needs of gifted students. Our gifted program provides differentiated instruction within the classroom setting as follows:

  • We allow for a faster pace of learning.
  • We recognize flexible ability and utilize cluster grouping to accommodate varying abilities.
  • We choose course content that allows our students to engage in more complex investigation.

Learn more about our gifted program and determine your child's possible candidacy by reviewing the documents provided in the side bar.

Instructional Resources

We utilize a significant number of Instructional Resources within our district. We selected these programs to enrich, improve, and complement our curriculum while keeping focused on meeting the unique and specific needs of our student body. We encourage you to take a look and see the many enrichment opportunities we have to offer.
