SAN TAN VALLEY, ARIZ. - Following an extensive career in public education, Director of Technology, Jack Wallbrecht has announced his retirement from the J.O. Combs Unified School District effective December 31, 2020.
A former business owner of ten years, Wallbrecht entered public education in 1990 at the encouragement of his wife who at the time was a teacher. He began as a fourth grade teacher with the Kyrene School District, and after eight years in the classroom, transitioned to the technology department where he oversaw technology services for 25 schools. Wallbrecht later moved to the Maricopa Unified School District where he served as a CTE teacher, received his principal certification, and ultimately served as the Director of Technology for six years. In April 2014, Wallbrecht joined the Combs team where he served in his current role as Director of Technology.
"With thirty years of dedicated service in public education, Jack has demonstrated his deep commitment to serving others, which includes providing invaluable leadership to Combs during our transition to individualized instruction and 21st century technology with our #Forward initiative," said Dr. Gregory Wyman, Superintendent. "I want to publicly thank Jack for his commitment and service to the Combs community, and wish him the best in his much deserved retirement."
In retirement, Wallbrecht will continue being a lifelong learner, with plans to enhance his woodworking skills and take guitar lessons. He also looks forward to exploring new hiking trails with his wife and dog, as well as spending quality time with his ten grandkids who range in age from 18 months to 12 years.
