The J. O. Combs Educating Young Children (EYC) program is a great first learning opportunity for students ages 3 – 5 not yet Kindergarten. The program supports the needs of the whole child both with disabilities that require special education and typically developing. There are three locations of our EYC program, Harmon Elementary, Ranch Elementary, and Simonton Elementary. The program is 2 ½ hours, four days a week with a morning session from 9:00 am – 11:30 am and an afternoon session from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm. Each classroom is led by a certified early childhood special education teacher, highly training paraprofessionals with support from a Speech Language Pathologist/Assistant two days a week.
Children with disabilities that have an Individual Education Program (IEP) attend the program at no cost. For typical peers, the monthly tuition cost is $120.00 per month. If you feel your child would be a great candidate as a peer, please contact Jeremy Scherer at firstname.lastname@example.org for next steps.
If you suspect your child may have a disability and require special education services, the district provide Play-based screenings at no cost. A Play-Based screening allows up to five preschool age students to participate in a structured play-based environment to gather information about the child’s performance in the areas of cognition, communication, adaptive skills, fine motor and gross motor. The screenings take place at Ranch Elementary monthly at 8:30 am, 9:45 am and 11:00 am.
