Empowering Students to be Life-Long Learners

    Vision

    Six Pillars of Character

Ranch Elementary School is a proud member of the Character Counts Coalition designed to foster and promote performance and moral character within students. Character Counts is a philosophy based on six universally recognized acts of character called the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. J.O. Combs Unified School District has adopted the program Character Always to continue the development of the Character Counts philosophy. Character Always is a comprehensive discipline program aligned with the Six Pillars of Character. Each student will have a Character Card for documenting his or her behavior.

There are three main objectives of the Character Always Character Cards. The first objective is to replace negative behaviors with positive ones by students being recognized for positive choices. Secondly, the Character Cards serve to establish ownership of personal behaviors by students due to students being accountable for documenting both positive and negative behaviors. Lastly, the Character Always Character Cards will create a consistent discipline system school-wide as well as district-wide. The following are the six expectations students will be held accountable for, along with a description of each of the Six Pillars of Character:

    • Be trustworthy.
    • Be responsible.
    • Be caring.
    • Be respectful.
    • Be fair.
    • Be a good citizen.
