Here you'll find the answers to many of your most common questions about our school.

What are the playground rules at Simonton?
- Children need to have adult supervision. Children should arrive after the school opens at 7:55 am.
- We do not allow animals on the playground.
- Children must keep their bicycles, roller skates/blades, scooters and skateboards off of the playground area.
- Children need to wear shoes/sandals at all times.
- Children should not throw sand or any other objects within the play area that may cause injury.
- Children should not play on wet equipment.
- Children should not push other children on the swings.
- Children should not stand on swings.
- Children should sit on swings appropriately and hold on with both hands.
- Children should not jump off swings, and they should stop the swing before getting off.
- Children should not swing or twist empty swings.
- Children need to stand clear of moving swings to avoid contact and possible injury.
- Children need to slide down the slides with feet first only.
- Children should not run or walk up slides.
- Children should slide down the slides one person at a time.
- Children should not stand/loiter at the bottom of the slides.
- Children should not push, run, shove, or jump on or off of playground equipment.
- Children should climb using both hands.
- Children should not stand on top of climbing equipment.

What health services are provided?

- We are also responsible for making sure our students are in compliance with Arizona law regarding immunizations. Therefore, we will be updating student records throughout the year and sending letters to parents advising them of any immunizations their child may require.

What items are NOT allowed at school?
- The following items are not allowed at school: knives, weapons of any kind, cigarettes, tobacco products, drugs, gum, water guns, toys, baseballs, bats, roller blades, wheelies, skateboards, portable radios, tape players, CD and MP3 players, cell phones, pagers, CDs, and pornography. Any aforementioned items, as well as any other items considered inappropriate, disruptive, or unsafe will be taken from the students.
- We permit students to bring animals to school only if they have received special permission, which we will grant ONLY with written approval from a student’s parent and teacher. We will not allow any animals on the school bus.

Can my child use the telephone at school?
Students will be allowed to use the school telephone in the case of an emergency or a matter that school officials deem necessary. We believe it is a student’s responsibility to remember their homework, books, lunch, etc. Arrangements for any after-school activities should be made with your child before he or she arrives at school.

Is there a dress code at Simonton Elementary?
The responsibility for student dress and grooming is that of the student and their parents. The dress code is as follows:- Students must wear their clothing and hairstyles in a manner that will help to ensure their safety during school activities.
- We will not permit grooming and dress that are likely to create a disruption or disturbance of the classroom.
- We encourage our students not to wear make-up.
- Students may wear hats/caps when they are outside, if they are worn squarely on the head with the brim facing the front.
- Students must have their bodies adequately covered at all times. Short shorts, bathing suits, halter tops, midriff tops, tube tops, spaghetti-straps, undershirts, mesh or sheer garments, etc., are not considered adequate coverage.
- Pictures and/or words on any garment or jewelry must be in good taste with nothing that is obscene, vulgar, or promotes anything that is illegal or considered gang-related.
- Students will be required to remove jewelry or any other accessories that present a safety hazard, are disruptive to the class, or distracting to the student(s).
- All clothing must fit...'sagging' clothes are not acceptable.
- We will send students home from school if their dress or grooming is inappropriate or disruptive.
- Fridays are designated as 'School Pride Day,' and we encourage students to wear the school colors, blue and silver, or a Simonton Stallion shirt which they can purchase through PTO.

What should my child do if he/she is late (tardy) for school?
If your child is late for school (after 8:15 am), he or she must report to the office before going to the classroom. We will issue a pass for the student to take to the classroom teacher.

What if my child must miss school?
Regular attendance, as well as being on time to school, is critical to the learning process. To enable your child to be academically successful in school, please do the following:- Please make every possible attempt to schedule doctor, dentist, or any other appointments for children at times outside the school day.
- When your child is ill and it is necessary for him/her to miss school, it is very important that you notify the school at (480) 987-5331 no later than 8:30 am. Also, contact your child’s teacher for any missing assignments or work which will need to be made up.
- You must contact the school if your child will be absent for an extended period of time. Unauthorized absences from school will be considered truancy and treated as such. Be sure to notify school officials within 10 days, or we will have no other choice than to withdraw the student from school according to state law.

Can I visit my child's school or class? What about other visitors?
All parents/guardians are welcome to visit Simonton Elementary at any time. However, we ask that you please follow these rules/procedures:- We welcome and encourage volunteers; however, we do not allow siblings or other children allowed during school hours.
- As a courtesy, please notify the principal and teacher before visiting a classroom.
- Policy requires that all visitors check in and out of the office and wear a visitor’s badge that is clearly visible at all times.
- For the safety of our children, office personnel must be aware of the identity and the location of anyone on school grounds when classes are in session.
- High school students on school vacation may volunteer in our classrooms. However, these students must have prior written parent and teacher permission and must remain with an adult at all times. High school students must also sign in and out at the office and wear a visitor’s badge.

What do I do if I need to pick up my child from school early?
Student safety is our number one priority. Therefore, we need to have certain rules and procedures in place which must be followed by all:- We will release a child from his/her classroom when the parent or guardian signs the student out in the office.
- The adult must be known to the office staff or present proper identification.
- Office staff will request the student be sent to the office to be released.
